CONTEMPORARY ART

Created to celebrate the meeting between art and wine, the biennial project “Costasera Contemporary Art” invites an internationally renowned artist from a country connected to Masi and its wines to create a work dedicated to Masi’s iconic Amarone Costasera.

THE AMARONE DRESSED BY ART

Each edition invites the selected artist to reinterpret the label of Costasera Amarone Classico, transforming every bottle into a small, collectible work of art. The result is a limited edition that celebrates the dialogue between wine, culture, and beauty.

For the 2019 edition, the labels featuring a reproduction of He Xi’s artwork embellish a selection of Costasera 2001 bottles.

JIN DU 津渡

The artwork, whose title in ancient Chinese means “transport by water,” depicts a flight of butterflies over the ocean, like a rainbow connecting the shores of the sea. It is inspired by Verona, the city of Romeo and Juliet, whose love story recalls a Chinese legend in which two lovers are transformed into butterflies. The artist is also inspired by Marco Polo, who brought porcelain and silk from China, which is why the painting is made on silk. The technique combines the free Xieyi brushstroke for the sea with the traditional meticulous style used for the butterflies.

THE ARTIST

He Xi, born in Beijing in 1960, lives and works in Shanghai. His painting combines Chinese tradition with a personal, ironic, and enigmatic style that explores freedom and the human condition through nature. He is the director of the art studio at the Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy. He has exhibited in major museums and cities such as Beijing, Paris, London, and New York.
